Michael Fabiano

American tenor, Michael Fabiano is establishing himself as one of the major young talents in the world today. A first-prize winner of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, he is prominently featured in The Audition, the recently released documentary produced by the Metropolitan Opera about this competition.

Mr. Fabiano will make several important debuts in the future; a list that includes his debut at the Vancouver Opera as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, his first Cassio in Otello at the Paris Opera, the Duke in Rigoletto at the Dresden Semperoper, and his debut at the Opera de Limoges as Rodolfo in La Bohème.

Mr. Fabiano’s 2009/10 season began with his London debut at English National Opera as the Duke in Rigoletto, which was followed by his Metropolitan Opera debut as Raffaele in Verdi’s Stiffelio. Future engagements during this season are La Traviata at the Teatro San Carlo, and L’Elisir d’Amore at the Fort Worth Opera.

During the 2008/09 season, Mr. Fabiano sang Rodolfo in La Bohème to open the 50th Anniversary Season of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and made his debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Opera Colorado.

Further performances during this season were a concert performance of Respighi’s La Fiamma at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia presented by the Academy of Vocal Arts, which was followed in the spring by his debut as Edgardo in the Academy of Vocal Arts’ production of Lucia di Lammermoor. Mr. Fabiano completed his season with a debut at the Teatro San Carlo as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly.

In the 2007/08 season, Mr. Fabiano made his La Scala debut as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. This role also served as his debut at the Greek National Opera along with the title role in Stravinsky’s Maura. Debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra as Rodolfo in La Bohème, with the Minnesota Orchestra as Alfredo in La Traviata, and with Opera New Jersey as Alfredo followed.

Mr. Fabiano made his professional stage debut at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater as Alfredo in La Traviata in 2006, and his Carnegie Hall debut in 2007, as Don Antonio in Donizetti’s Dom Sébastiene with the Opera Orchestra of New York. He also debuted his first Nemorino in L’Elisir D’amore with the New Jersey Opera Theater.

A recent graduate of the esteemed Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Mr. Fabiano has performed the leading roles in many of their productions. These include: Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Donello in La Fiamma, Alfredo in La Traviata, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, the Duke in Rigoletto, Roberto in Le Villi, Anatol in Vanessa, Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, and the tenor soloist in the Rossini Stabat Mater. He was an apprentice artist at the Santa Fe Opera in the summer of 2005, and is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Voice.

Noted with success in numerous vocal competitions, Mr. Fabiano was awarded the 2009 Grand Prize from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, is the First Prize winner in the 2008 Opera Index Awards, the First Place winner in the 2007 Loren Zachary Competition; the recipient of a 2007 George London Foundation Encouragement Award to a Tenor in Memory of James McCracken, a 2007 Sarah Tucker Study Grant, First Prize winner of the 2006 Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Competition, the José Carreras Prize for the Best Tenor in the 2006 Julián Gayarre Competition in Pomplona, Spain, and the Grand Prize recipient of the 2005 Florida Grand Opera Competition Junior Division.
